Description
You are bidding on a WWI Australian Army Veterinary Corps (AAVC) Cap Badge. The badge is used and is in good condition with limited signs of wear or age. The backside is unmarked and has both of its original lugs that are firmly attached and straight. The AAVC was a corps of the Australian Army which was formed in 1909 to replace the veterinary department of the Commonwealth Military Forces. Following the establishment of a number of artillery batteries and a remount department to supply those artillery batteries with horses, a permanent section of the AAVC was formed in 1911.
The AAVC was responsible for the veterinary care of horses and the training of farriers, preventive care and first aid of the Army’s horses. During the First World War 120 officers of the AAVC served overseas with the Australian Imperial Force. Be sure to check out my other auctions for more military collectibles. Good luck and happy bidding!
