DESCRIPTION: This rare item, like it is shown in the last 2 pictures, is the extremity of a beam in a veranda of a Belu house. The
    veranda
    of the
most important Belu houses have their beams carved as the deceased members of the family and they are means to communicate with the ancestors themself, to pray them and ask them for protection. This figure depicts a woman, with a quite important social status, as shown also by the headdress. Very Rare and ethnographically meaningful piece. No selfstanding.
AGE: second half of 20th century.
PROVENIENCE: field collected during my last trip to Timor, few month ago.
