This necklace was given to me by one of my West Papua employees at the Freeport Grasberg mine. These guys' grandparents were literally stone age people who lived in the Highlands of the island of New Guinea near Puncak Jaya (elevation 16,200 feet) and the Baliem Valley. It is mostly seeds and bone but also includes a boar's tusk, a crucifix, the front of a rhinoceros beetle and strangely a circuit breaker label. I wish I could tell you great stories about its history and magic, but the necklace will have to speak for itself.
