    Description

    Old Ramu River Ancestor Mask Papua New Guinea Antique Ceremonial Oceanic Wood Carved.  Crack, nicks and chips.  My great uncle (Houston) traded for this from the natives when sailing the South Pacific Islands in his Sailboat The Balea in the 1960's/1970's.  He wrote on the back of it in marker.  It says "Old Ramu River Ancestor....and I can't make out the last word.
    If anyone knows more please let me know.  I would be fascinated to learn anything else about it.  22 by 7 by 4".
    He used to bring back a lot of treasures from his yearly travels around the world and he would sell them to his sister (my grandmother) who owned Cheryl Leaf Antiques in Bellingham, WA.  She would then sell some in her shop but kept the best for her personal collection and also gave some to my mom.  When I started collecting masks back in the 1980's this was a gift to me from my mom.
