    Description

    Hunting Boomerang from New South Wales
    This hunting boomerang, or throwstick was made out of Mulga, a dense desert hardwood. I acquired this boomerang in 1987 from Barclay Gallery in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. The Gallery obtained it from an auction house in England. The shape, material and construction method is similar to hunting boomerangs made in New South Wales. It was probably made in the 19th Century, based on color , construction method and source. Both sides are scraped smooth. This was accomplished by wetting the outer surface and using a stone tool to remove the soft surface wood. A very nice artifact in excellent condition.
