    Description

Canoe Prow New Guinea Tanbanum Tribe East Sepik River Tribe 16 Inches c. 1930
Hand carved by the Tanbanum Jungle Tribe of Papua New Guinea from the front of a dug out canoe.  The tribe lives along the East Sepik River.  The tribes of the New Guinea Jungle revere the crocodile and as such carve them on the front of their dugout canoes.  This was sawn off from one such canoe.  Acquired in Cairns, Queensland Australia in November 1987.  Brought there by a missionary who acquired a few items.  Believed to be about 90 years old.  Pictures describe this item as this is the actual item you will receive.
