Authentic IRIAN JAYA, New Guinea ASMAT CHIEF/SHAMAN PECTORAL Boar Tooth Necklace
Very good overall condition! All original.
Mid-20th century, Irian Jaya, New Guinea.
Band is handwoven from bark twine, and each of the 39 boar teeth are woven in separately.
Collected from Asmat on the coast of Irian Jaya, East Papua New Guinea.
A rare traditional necklace that was used during special ceremonies and celebrations & worn by important men during initiations and feasts (Chief, Shaman and Warriors).

Was purchased by my father, an avid collector, then placed on display shelving.
