    Description

A traditional Sago pounder used by the Asmat tribe in the Agats area of PNG.  The pounder comes in 2 pieces and is used to crush the Sago tree palm pith into a traditional foodstuff.  The pounded Sago palm is used as a bread/pancake type food.  The smaller piece with sawtooth notched measures 14" and is inserted into the 28" handle.  The sawtooth pounder which mashes the Sago measure approximately 2" in circumference. This is an everyday used utensil used to feed the tribal members.  The piece looks great framed on the wall.  The piece is made from Iron Wood and is very durable.  Would make a great piece for any PNG, Asmat, primitive culinary tool, etc. collection.  Please review all photos.  All offers considered.  MAKE AN OFFER!!!
